3 Ways Carrie Changed My Life...And Some Random Fun!

1) Carrie invited me to be a “roomie”. If not for our mission trip to Daytona Beach (how did we both end up on an IV mission trip anyway?), I may never have experienced the awesomeness of living with the best roommates ever! My college experience and the entire direction of my life was forever impacted by our prank wars, Crockpot Fridays, girly movies, and - most importantly - the constant love and support I experienced in our time living together.

2) Carrie prayed for me. In college, and even at times still today, Carrie was the person I went to with stress, prayer concerns, or ministry hopes. She was the person I could count on to pray for me and with me, whether I was in a serious crisis, or just in the midst of my own drama! This was especially true during some of our late evening porch talks.

3) Carrie built my faith. I have never met someone more willing to love people exactly as they are, and yet love them way too much not to share with them the truth of the gospel. I am in constant awe of her ability to balance her beliefs with her everyday life, and to love her friends and family enough to be honest with them, even when they don’t agree with her. It challenges me to be more open, loving, and honest in my own everyday life.

Christian Curry

This message isn't a story about Carrie. It is about the importance
of Carrie. In a world without Carrie, I would imagine Mike working 12
jobs (he currently only holds 11) to keep up with his beer, clothing,
automobile, and beer habits. Without Carrie, Mike would have a
microwave and eat "Hungry Man" meals 5-6 nights out of the week (not
that there is anything wrong with this). On the other 1 - 2 nights,
he would eat scrapple sandwiches with a light salad. Without Carrie,
Mike would most likely live in the new "tree house" outside of the
Dogfish Factory. Without Carrie, there would be no Ethan and no Katie
and that would make Mike sad. Carrie has done a nice job raising Mike
and their two children. Thanks for being a great sister-in-law!

I remember one day when you said, "hey, cake decorating classes are half price at michaels this month. wanna take one with me?" and i said, "sure, why not?" next thing you know we were knee deep in cake, and while I am proud of the business you started and so graciously let me be a part of, I am more proud to call you a friend and am so thankful for the countless hours i got to spend with you decorating cakes (even the stressful ones, where cakes were toppling over and fillings were squishing out and mousse turned to butter) and the conversations we were able to share. I don't know what I would have done without you during my time in delaware.. you are such a gift to everyone who has been blessed enough to have you in their lives. miss you & happy birthday!!! -Chandler

Patrick's Twin

Although Patrick is technically younger - he has always let you be the baby. And you were so nice to include him in all your birthday celebrations - for whenever we got tired of hearing you tell us that your birthday was coming up you started telling us that is was Patrick's birthday coming soon.

I can't find the picture right now but you looked just like Cindy Lou Who - the littlest Who in Who-ville. Tiny and cute with the hair to match. :-)

Hi Carrie,
Your visits to Florida have always meant a lot to us. You gave us a week here in early 90's when you and Pop Pop rode bikes together and we had fun planning events together. Remember your bingo win when you were too young to collect--you knew you were winning and quickly exchanged cards with PopPop BUT when we got home you counted dimes won to equal $30. You were so delighted to win.
Another time we went to an alligator farm. Alligators were in pens and smelly, and you remarked that the wild ones sunning along the river were more interesting. We had crossed a bridge across the river to get to the alligator farm.
You and Nicky visited Don and I a few years ago. How wonderful to see you. We would welcome your family anytime-Let us know.

I remember having a hard conversation standing in the Hagerty House and thinking this girl is never going to speak to me again, and then there she was walking down the isle, a woman of God, mature, beautiful and full of life, hope and promise. Most of my memories of you Carrie, also include Mike...and that is a great thing! The fact that I knew Mike well before I knew of you, and even Christian, is something I hold dear to my heart. I do remember sitting on the dock in Canada, talking to Mike about my relationship with Christian, and the possibility of C and I getting married. I remember him saying, "It is an awesome thing to be with someone whom you love so much, for the rest of your life". I know Mikey thinks that of you, and he loves you so, so much! What I love is that I could not have asked for a more beautiful, God-loving, sincere, sweet, and fun person to share the role of "Curry boy wife" with me! You are so much more than a sister in law to me, you are a true friend. I love that we can talk about even the deepest of things together, and when those "things" involve our husbands, I love that we can both understand as the wives of these amazing men. I love that we are raising our families together, and that our children are growing to become the best of friends. I love that our husbands are better friends, and better brothers now, than they have ever been! I love that we are in this spiritual journey together and that we can be ourselves together. I love that you are the exact form of my husband (but female) and that Mike and I share our "free spirit" personalities! I can't wait to "grow up" together, Carrie, with our husbands, and children, and most importantly, our God. You are an amazing woman, wife, and mother, but to me, you are the greatest of friends. Tongue Wagging

Whenever one of my boys, or any kid really, has their tongue hanging out it reminds me of Carrie. And if you look at any picture of her from before the age of 10 you will know why!!

Girl Scout Cookies

To this day, my siblings and I are unable to eat a certain Girl Scout Cookie, the evil Thin Mint!!

Why? Well, Carrie and Tracy decided one night to eat several ENTIRE BOXES of Thin Mints. Needless to say, this caused a lot of illness in the house resulting in the disposal of several sets of bedding in Carrie & Tracy's room. And the general stench of the combination of vomit and chocolate-mint will forever be burned in my memory.

So thank you, Carrie, for saving me years of buying Girl Scout cookies!

College (and Beyond) Memories

Carrie, I have so many worthy memories of you but I think I will copy Mike and do a top ten list.
1. You ignoring me when I first came to campaigners (good thing I met Christ right?)
2. You always spending time with me in high school and always giving me Christ centered wisdom even before I knew what a relationship with Him looked like. Oh and telling me to break up with Evan, multiple times.
3. Making cupcake frosting "canola oil will make it shiny!" "put some ice cream on it for ambiance!"
4. The Procreator, The wizzle mizzle, "Draw the food lion, lion!"
5. Dumpster diving in your neighborhood under the cover of night.
6. Sleeping over at your house on those burgundy couches that I know you just recently got rid of.
7. You showing Meghan and I that you were pregnant with Ethan.
8. Baking anything and everything
9. So many tears of laughter, joy and trials.
10. I think above anything else it is seeing how your kindness, love, persistence and patience in my life allowed me to meet Christ, run hard after Him and to be a great example for me to do the same with high school girls all over Virginia, that is the most amazing memory anyone could ever grant me!

1. She understands that he “needs” a jeep.

4. She is gracious about the kegerator and all its residuals.
5. She makes him iron his own shirts while she bakes incredible cakes.
6. She is fine with Ethan’s “Great Adventure with Daddy” Choice often being either Dogfish or Starbucks.
7. She was an absolutely gorgeous bride.
8. She came with a whole wonderful family.
9. She makes beautiful babies, and loves them well.
10. She keeps Mike grounded, and also lets him fly.

Getting Carrie to go to 1st grade

The summer before Carrie and Patrick were to go to first grade Carrie was having a really sad time. She was grumpy and sad for days. I finally asked her why she was so unhappy and she said she didn't want to go to first grade. I asked her why and she said: "Mommy, who will you eat lunch with?" I convinced her that I'd find someone to eat with or come and have lunch with her at school.

I'm privileged to have such a unique daughter as a 'friend' and have her still be my little girl even if she is turning 30!

some randomness...

you may already know this, but moving in across the street from you was probably the bestest thing to ever happen to me. for one, you were friends with all the cool kids, so i was IN (for the most part). it was an oasis of fun... watching mtv and being in love with eddie vedder together, celebrating puerto rican day with a funfetti cake, making soft pretzel butter bombs, creating fabulous homes with kidpix and our fun basement hideaway where we would play barbies and pretend we were too cool for it! i love how our random fun never stopped despite all the changes in life!! you are such a wonderful friend and i am so thankful to have you in my life!!!!! happy 30th birthday! i love you!!!! :D

Years of Young Life

I remember our Surf Bagels at 6:45 – too hot to be toasted! – and our workbooks at Jamie’s kitchen table, then waffles & making fun of Beth Moore’s sweet clothes & hairdos in the summer. Going to talent shows & chorus concerts, how you stood up for me to come on the leaders’ weekend my junior year. How you told me freshman year that you wanted a baby before I graduated and then how Katie called Ethan your rice cube…So many trips to McDonald’s and hours hanging out & “interning.” I still have the verses you gave to me for work crew that started my own collection: No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him. 1 Cor 2:9 You taught me to be different.

Ethan

I love our memory of walking around Lewes in the middle of the night, the night that Ethan was born. It was hot and muggy and you were just a little bit pregnant! We walked and speculated as to how our life would be different with a son! Here we are, three years later, and it is just a bit different. And so much fuller!

She is silly and wonderful; thoughtful and spontaneous; beautiful and spry; a daughter, a wife, a mother and pretty much the coolest chick I know.
